Behind the Studio

Tomas Black graduated from Alfred University in 2009 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a focus on ceramics. In addition to ceramic arts he is trained in glass casting/ blowing, metal casting/ weilding, paint and sketch, mixed media, and sculpture.

Tomas' ceramics range from production wares for the home, garden and business to large-scale art pieces, which he calls "story pots" due to their narritive based quality.

Tomas has experience teaching to a wide range of skill levels and ages. His teaching credentials include work as the assistant head of shop at Buck's Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp, teaching assistant  for the Alfred University glass and ceramics shop, and head teaching aide, then primary teacher at The Glass Furnace--the premier Turkish university of glass--summer program, to teaching in Northampton Massachusetts as the resident artist/ teacher too now teaching out of his own studio to students starting at age 3+.

The Studio is located down the road from the Leverett Buddhist Peace Pagoda one of the great sites in New England. It was built piece by piece by Tomas in the summer and fall of 2010. The studio is equipped with three professional throwing wheels, a trimming wheel, a paragon style L&L 15cbft. electric kiln, a plaster/ mold making area, slip casting and  handmade glazes. The studio has its own parking, it is located only a few feet off of Cave Hill Rd. in Leverett, it is a one story building with ground level entrance offering easily access. The studio open to the general public 10-5 seven days a week.

We strive to make sure everyone from every walk of life feels welcomed, safe and creative.
